Subject: Dark brown streaks in nails
Message: Can someone help me? I've had dark brownish streaks in my nails for a few years. The condition seems to only get worse. I
haven't tried anything OTC because I don't know what this is and haven't ever heard of this before. I am 27, caucasian, and a mother of 2. If you have any information that may be of help to me or others please reply to this message!

Message: sounds like a condition called melanonychia. happens in dark skinned individuals, but also caucasians too. you can do a search for it on line and there are hundreds of pictures out there. sometimes the lines are thin and small, sometimes they are spread out and more diluted. they are hereditary mostly and sometimes people just get them out of the blue. there's absolutely nothing over the counter that will get rid of them. nothing you can take or put on them. they are just there. if they change in any way, like a mole changes, then you need to ask your doctor about them.

Message: Thanks for the info Cheryl. I recently developed two dark vertical lines on my right thumb after I gave birth to my second son. I noticed in the hospital after I delivered in April and it hasn't gone away. Too busy with a newborn to go to a doctor about it but my OBGYN had no idea what it was... at least it's nothing life threatening and I can take my time researching it!

Message: I've had dark brown streaks (stripes) in my nails for
years. I've always considered it normal. Then I
discovered that it was foot fungus. Do some research
even online you can find lots of info. I used tea tree oil
and the streaks are gone from one of my feet. I continue
to treat the other foot. Foot fungus if left untreated can
cause the nail to grow crookedly (check your other
toes) the ones with the streaks are likely less 'straight'
than those without. Try doing some more research and
try tea tree oil.
