Subject: one nail wont grow!
Message: I am trying to grow my nails out (after 23 years of biting). I am doing pretty well and putting clear polish on and getting manicures...but my right pointer finger grows at SUCH a slow rate. And when it does grow, it's weak and a little crooked? or at least, it's not as wide as the other nails...so, it ends up breaking again. is there a reason why this happens? anything i can do?

Message: Alison,
good for you! it's a hard habit to break, but feels so good when you can look down at your hands and see the rewards. the manicures are a great way to remind yourself they are worth it. your pointer finger may have sustained more damage at some point in the biting years. you will probably never know why.
the clear polish is, after all, drying chemicals that are being applied and then being removed with even more drying remover. i'm not saying that you can never polish your nails, but they need healing time away from the drying effects of all these chemicals. your nails need moisture right now to become strong, healthy, and most importantly, flexible.
