Subject: Nails lifting from beds

Message:
I have been wearing acrylics for a very long time. I now have a problem. I can tell where the nails are attached to the bed, but then there is a rather large white spot where the nail has separated from the bed. I have only been using nail polish, no acrylics on these two nails for about a month now, thinking if I just leave them alone it will grow out. I don't think so, because, my theroy, when my nail starts to grow my nails actully hurt. Is this the nail separatig from the bed. Is there any medication to speed up this process.'
Thanks
Karen

all your nails will eventually, completely lift from the nail beds and you won't have any nails, anymore, given enough time. your nails hurting are a sign that they have had enough. there is no medicine to help this other than taking off the acrylics. it's the only way you're going to be able to save any of them. once they start lifting they will all eventually lift.

I just removed all of my acrylic nails for the same reason. I will
never have them on again. I wore them for quite a long time,
quit and went back again - I have always had extremely weak
nails. Nails with layers that would always, bend, peel and just
never grow to the end of my fingers. On top of that I was always
a biter... horrible habit.
3 of my nails lifted from the nail bed. They look horrendous,
but I am hopeful that they will grow normally again someday.
Can you recommend some products to help improve the health
of my nails??? I appreciate your suggestions and help.

Joy,
i was exactly where you are now, last november. i had taken my acrylics off for probably the 3rd time. this time i had been having a lot of pain and bacterial infections-the greenies. i just decided that i had had it with them and i just wanted to grow my own nails. i attempted it many times before, but always ended up bitting and then going back to the acrylics for the past 5 years or so. mine were peeling, lifting, weak and pretty much in deplorable shape. i bought the natural nails growth formula from this site a few years ago and never really used it like i was supposed to because i had on the acrylics and they "cover up" all your problems, right? well, i set my mind to it, started using the formula as directed and now almost 6 months later i have healthy, strong nails. it was almost a month before i saw any progress at all. that's how bad they were. i have spent a lot of money on useless products and this formula is for real. i feel for you because i've been there. my fingers were so sensitive when i started that it hurt to massage the growth formula in, but i did. i truly have no connection to this site other than using this product. my only motive is to try and help people through this process of getting their nails healthy. it's not an overnight process. you really have to make an effort to do this every day. the formula lasts for 3 months, isn't greasy and really seals the moisture in to your nails, which are very dehydrated right now. you can read more about this by clicking on the link below-Return To Our Home Page-it will give you a good overview of the ingredients and how it works. any more questions you have i am glad to answer.

Hi there, I'm a professional nail tech and to me it sounds like you developed and allergic reaction to the acrylic. Thats probably why your natural nails are lifting from the nail bed. Could also be from overfiling. DOnt let anybody use an electric file (drill) directly on your natural nail. Its very damaging. I only file by hand. You need to let your nails heel and grow out. Then if you want them back on, try gel nails. They are better than acrylic. Less damaging. But dont be fooled by many asian shops calling their nails gel. Man of them do acrylic (a liquid and powder mixed together.. very strong smell) and then put a gel sealant over it. Its jsut that, acrylic with a gel top coat. E-mail me if you have anymore questions about finding a reputable nail tech or the differnt types of nails.

I've never used acrylics but the nail on my left ring finger has been slowly lifting and growing a blackish/yellowish something (I assume a fungus). Since I've never used acrylics and I don't polish my nails, I'm wondering... Could this be a nutrition deficiency??? Water deficiency??? What causes this and can it be reversed. I've asked doctors and manicurists about this and no one knows what it is. It began during my second pregnancy 7 years ago. It would come and go. Now it appears it's here to stay. HELP! :-)

Debi,
well, that doesn't sound good! you would have to be so severely defficient in vitamins and nutrition for it to affect your nail like that. lack of water has nothing, at least in my mind, to do with it. you need to go to a dermatologist and they need to do a scraping to determine whether it's a fungus or a bacterial infection. you can't treat one like you do the other. it can be stopped and either way, you will find out what it is so it doesn't spread. a doctor is the only one who can tell you and just don't take no, i don't know what it is, for an answer. that's not acceptable. someone can help you.

I am nurse and have been having problems with my natural nails lifting for 4 years. I've never had acrylic nails. It started after doing some heavy yard work. After three doctors, they finally decided that the clippings were conclusive for a pseudomonas (bacterial) infection under four of my nail beds. I've been on four rounds of Cipro and used numerous bottles of a compounded Alcohol mixture. The Cipro helps but then I get the infection again because water and bacteria get under the nail because it has lifted. I'm healthy, no thyroid problems. Any other ideas?

KSM,
you and your doctors are certain that there are no fungal infections or a yeast infection made worse by the antibiotics? it has just hung on so long that it sounds like a stubborn fungus. have you tried soaking in apple cider vinegar or rubbing tea tree oil on them? i'm sure your hands are in water a lot being a nurse. this web site sells a product which puts a moisture barrier on your nails, speeds growth, and promotes a healthy nail bed. go to the home page and read about it. i've used the nail growth formula for 3 years and a lot of women on this site have benefitted greatly from it. it is made by a husband and wife team in south georgia, and they are a reputable, well-run family owned business. many of our horror nail stories are here on the forum. information is a wonderful thing and a lot cheaper than doctor visits and prescriptions.
