Message: now i have read a few of these horror stories on here..and have had it happen to myself. but my daughters fingernail is like blue underneath and there is a slight bump where the nail comes out. this accident happened 2 days ago. it doesnt seem to hurt her as much as it does me. i am just wondering will it get better?? or should i take her to the doc??

Message: i would just wait a week and see how it goes. as long as it's not swelling and collecting a lot of blood under the nail or painful for her, then wait and see if the bump starts growing out. if you feel like you need to go for a doctors visit then just be aware that he might want to drain the blood and that might end up being more traumatic then the original injury!

Message: This message is especially for Patti. I have slammed my finger in the car door as a child so I am quite familar with the pain and issues related to that. TO GET RID OF THE PRESSURE- You must sterilize a pin...heat it with fire/lighter and puncture a small hole in the area/finger. That will allow the blood to flow freely and exit, otherwise you will have great pressure and pain then will come the ugly black spot that is really hard to get rid of. The flowing of the blood creates all that painful pressure, so if you get the blood to move and exit the pain will be minor to none. Afterwards it's best to soak in peroxide just in case of infection. I was told this "little trick" by a nurse at a local hospital one day. I just wish I knew back when I slammed my finger in the door as a child!

Message: Correct me if I'm wrong but would it not be wiser to leave the finger alone, rather then drain it? The body will realise that the pooling blood is not feeding anything and will reabsorb back into the dermis. Added to this, this is a 3 year old's nail we are talking about. Wouldn't any fooling around with it (I.e: pins and lighters to drain the blood technique) damage the nail matrix? I'd leave it alone. The body has ways of healing itself.
