Subject: dipping powder
Message: Hello,
I just got my nails wrapped with silk wraps and acrylic powder and glue. You know, when they place glue on your nail then dip into the powder. My question is, is this as harmful as the acrylic powder mixing with the monomer and the other liquids they use to make the acrylic ball. I was told using the powder and the glue is less harmful to the nail and its a different consistency. Can someone Please answer this question for me.

Message: Lilly,
it's just as bad. definitely not any less harmful to your nail beds. it's not so much what they do to your nails during your fills, even though that's pretty rough, as what they had to do to your nails before they applied anything. roughing up the nails, applying the acid primer to make sure no nasty fungus gets through and dehydrate, and then the acrylic powder and super glue is still a nail destrroying combination. acrylic nails are still acrylic and something to bind it together no matter what you call it.

Message: Thanks Cheryl for your advice. It had been 6 years since the last time I had acrylics on my nails. And to be honest, i kept them on for a year and they completely destroyed my nails. As time went on they healed. I usually have nice strong healthy nails but after a rough winter my nails were very dry and brittle and began to break often. I became fustrated and put on the enhancements again. I really thought silk wraps with powder and glue was not as bad as traditional acyrlics. I defintely won't leave them on for long. I guess I just damaged my nails again. I will order the cream at this website, so when i take them off after the summer mos. I can begin the healing process for my nails and hopefully my nails will go back to normal.

Message: Lilly,
yes, unfortunately, your nails are probably damaged again. i did the merry-go-round for quite a while too, and my nails were very forgiving when i finally decided to get off of it! anything involving super glue, i've found, isn't something you want to involve your nails in. the acrylic powder and the glue is just so very drying to your nails and the skin around your nails. the growth formula is something you can use right now until you decide to take off the enhancements. it won't affect what you're doing as far as fill-ins and it will definitely help your cuticles stay healthy and hydrated. without healthy cuticles there are no healthy nails, i've discovered. i don't want to sound like i'm pushing the growth formula, but if you're waiting to use it because you think it might interfere with what you're doing now, it doesn't. it only helps in the long run. as always, it's up to you!

Message: Is of there a different type of nail application, called healthy nails that's done with a powder that is not acrylic? I just had my nails done. They used a dipping powder and looked to like gel that you brush on. Do you know of such product?

Message: I think everyone is missing the boat here. NONE of these products are good for your nails! Period. End of story. I used Kiss glue on nails for about 5 months. I never roughed up my nail or anything and from the glue (I believe) I got the deepest ridges. They are like valleys on my thumbs. All this crap with the chemicals in it just isn't good for you or your nails. My manicurist (for natural nails) told me that half this powder stuff they use is porcelain, which is illegal and secondly it penetrates into your skin which means it's getting into your blood stream. Do youselves a favor.....stop using all this fake stuff and get some NGF.

Message: christi,
there are days when it's just "deja vu" all over again! so many are brainwashed out here, that acrylics are fine and dandy and "how can they hurt your nails when nail techs say they don't"? all it takes is one person at a time. but some days it feels like a huge battle. we will do it. it will just take some time. thanks for the support.

Message: Christi - you said it so well. EVERYTHING that covers the nail requires chemicals for bonding. To some extent that probably alters the future growth because those products are applied at the cuticle's base also. Good example with the KISS nails. I used them too with the same results. Those results are maximized when you add "roughing up" or drilling for fills.
I can't blame techs too much for wanting to save their livlihood and they might be bending over backwards trying to find a safER method, especially when clients are asking for that vs. taking their nails off. Times probably aren't as good as they used to be for techs. I see less and less people wearing acrylics these days, both in the media and out on the street.

Message: Saving their livlihood right you are. Those nailtechs will tell you anything in order to do that. Have you noticed that every time a strip mall goes up so does a nail salon go in there?

Message: Hol,I agree, every strip mall in vegas has at lease one "cut rate nail shop" i don't even call them nail salons. they grind your nail beds to death, their shops aren't very clean and they use nail polish that you could cut with a knife and just think we've paid $ for this wonderful treatment, i could have bought a new car !!!! im so glad i found ngf, my nails are starting to look pretty, i wished i had known about this product a long time ago, i could be dripping in diamonds by now for all the $ spent on nail products that did't work.
