Message: If the matrix or root of the nail is not traumatized it will grow back. If there is extensive damage to the matrix, you may indeed not grow the nail back. Just relax a minute and see what evolves. But protect that finger against ANY further trauma.

Message: I caught the index finger on my right hand in a car door three months ago. Took about a month for the nail to fall off. Something's growing but it doesn't look like my original fingernail. There is a crescent moon shape at the base and a raised nail-like band about 1/8-inch wide. About 60% of the area on the top of my finger that was covered by the nail is still bare. Nothing hurts; but is looks gross. Sorry I can't provide more cheerful news.

Message: no, it is not true. if the matrix-the living skin under the nail is injured-then a nail may never grow back. if it's not injured then a nail should grow back in about 3-4 months.

Message: Amanda,
you really need to be careful and not let your cuticles become infected. the cracks in your cuticles can let germs in and it is very painful if they do. the cuticle IS the barrier for germs getting into your fingers. on this site there is a product sold called natural nails growth formula. get it, use it, and your cuticles will heal. if you can't obtain it, then vitamin e oil works well also. you do need to keep your hands moisturized, it will help heal them, but you also need to keep your hands clean. if you gently push back your cuticles more often you won't continue to have cracking. the reason they were cracking was because they were overgrown and pushing them back so drastically just made the cracking worse. you're going to have to "baby" them until they heal.

Message: Acidophilus and garlic can help to neutralize fungi. GarliMax is odor free food supliment by Performance Labs.
But if you don’t have fungus just, be sure to eat right (get plenty of quality protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water and other liquids including carrot juice, avoid sugar, simple carbohydrates, citrus fruits, salt and vinegar) and treat your nails with TLC. And that will make your nails better.
Good luck.

Message: During the last 2 years, the attachment of two of my fingernails have receded where the white portion of the nail is moving toward the cuticle seperating the nail from the finger; there is also a dull throb at the edge of each nail were the nail is detaching from the finger. Any treatments or recommendations you may have would be appreciated.
