Message: well that's some helpful advice! first you have to want to stop biting them-and that's the hardest part. then start taking care of them. massage some vitamin e oil into them every night before you go to sleep. keep a nail file and clippers in the rooms your in the most and clip or file rough edges and hangnails. when you're sitting doing nothing make a conscious effort to keep them out of your mouth and instead push back your cuticles with your finger tips. keep your cuticles hydrated and you won't be tempted to gnaw at them. sorry, there is no magic pill. you just have to want to stop the habit-and that's what it is-and replace it with a good habit. if you feel comfortable, go have a manicure done, of course without the polish, and a manicurist can start you off in the right direction. they've seen it all, believe me! just decide to do it and do it!

Message: Anita,
good for you! i know how hard it is to break the nail biting habit. i've been doing it for 38 years, with a couple of breaks in there, and it is something i have to think about not doing everyday. i have been using the natural nails growth formula sold on this site every day for over two months now, after going on the acrylic merry-go-round for 4+ years. they were in horrible condition at the new year and now they are growing, getting stronger, and all without the use of drying hardeners and removers. i'm not saying that they are perfect or that i never have any problems with them, but actually seeing how far they've come in 2 months time from sore, peeling, no-nails to decent looking nails with white showing, is amazing to me. i have tried every hardener and swallowed every "herbal remedy" for them and nothing's worked like this stuff. it helps keep the moisture in and stimulates the growth of the nail. i tell people all the time on this site, it just works, and i don't know how to make it any clearer. i was just at the end of my rope with my nails and this growth formula saved them. it can be done without acrylics, hardeners and "magic pills". there's alot of satisfaction in doing this myself without all the broken promises. just give it a try.

Message: Dominic,
i wish there was a secret i could give you that would make you stop biting them. i bit mine for 35 years so i know how much you want to stop. you say you "really want to stop", and, believe it or not, wanting to stop the biting and pain is half the battle. when your home rub some vitamin e oil into them when you're sitting around with time on your hands-no pun intended! keep fingernail clippers in rooms you're in the most so you don't end up ripping cuticles and start gnawing. i thought about all the disgusting germs that end up on our hands just from doing everyday, normal things, like touching a doorknob, turning on a faucet, opening a car door, etc. who's done that exact same thing before you and where have their hands been. not to make you paranoid about touching stuff, but it does make you think. about 13 years ago i went to a dermatologist to have a mole removed and he noticed that i bit my nails then. he casually mentioned that most cases of warts are spread through contact. you touching something that someone with the wart virus touched before. he said we would all be disgusted if we could see through a microscope what spreads around. i didn't stop biting my nails at that time, but it certainly stayed with me and disgusted me everytime i touched anything out there in public for a while. the thought stayed with me ever since. your nails are not going to show any growth for a couple of weeks, sometimes more. they need time to heal. patience, i'm sure for a 15 year old, is non-existent, but it's the one thing you truly need. i did it after a lot of years. i know you can if you really want to.

Message: Yep, Cheryl is right! I also bit my nails for way too many years and the first step truly is wanting to stop, and that is a biggie. Follow Cheryl's advice cause she's on target. Oh, and the part about germs also had a big part of helping me, think about all of the germs on your finger tips every time you put them into your mouth. Focus on how nice your hands will look with nicely manicured nails, and know that each time you bite one, you are messing up that look! You might want to treat yourself with a new ring or bracelet or even new polish and files. This treat can help keep you motivated. You go girl, Cheryl and myself did it..you can too!!!

Message: Kim, Replace that chewing habit with something that will be more beneficial. Like just pushing your cuticles back with your fingertips. That way both hands are busy, and away from your kisser! LOL! Remember, no one can do this but you, so now that you're aware of the problem, you are ready to make the necessary adjustments in your behavior.
