Subject: damaged toenail
Message: months ago I dropped a table on my big toenail causing bleeding underneath. Now the nail is lose
on one entire side & I'm afraid I'm going to lose
the entire nail. Normally I could cope with this
but getting married in 3 months and wearing open
toed shoes. Any suggestions for disguising area if the nail does in fact fall off (fake toenail)Should I go ahead and remove it or wait and see if it falls off on its own?

Message: kim,
toe nails take quite a while to grow back. i, personally, would go see a doctor-probabaly a dermatologist- because the last thing you need is to pull it off and have an infection.if it's only loose on one side then that means there is one side still attatched with nerves and blood flow to that one side. if you do it, i'm afraid it's going to bleed and hurt. if you end up with no toe nail at least if you've had it removed as sterile as possible you will have healthy skin to put a "fake" one on for your big day.

Message: OMG! That must have really hurt! newa, My aunt's mother (not
related to me) recently had her toenail completely fall off b/c her
toe was slammed into an iron door or somthing. she went to
the docctors and is letting it heal naturally. you should
DEFINATELY see a proffessional especialy b/c of your upcoming
wedding. ask him/her if you can get a fake toenail and what
their reccommendations are for you. also, make sure to clean
your toe w/ alcohol EVERY DAY. do not use hydrogen peroxide
b/c it can prevent healing. let your toe breath; DO NOT cover it
w/ a band-aid. Hope i helped:)

Message: keep it clean with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with a bandage if it keeps bleeding right now, and do not wear tight shoes. if it starts looking red and infected then you will have to seek treatment for it. it's not worth losing your whole toe over. the nail will probably grow back very slowly and in the meantime if you keep it clean and don't do any more damage to it, like whacking it accidentally, it will "toughen up" and will be much easier to deal with. leaving it clean and uncovered will do it the most good. also soaking it it epsom salts will take away some of the pain and swelling.
